I’m still packing up all of my stuff for the big move and came across this receipt.  Took me awhile to remember why I held onto it for so long, then I realized – it was my first business expense.  $75 for a membership to RocketTheme, a Joomla Template club.  That relatively small expense helped me triple my customer base and launched my baby of a business into adolescence.

It was the first time I ever spent real money on my small biz.

the first time I realized that “this is for real”.

the first time I actually believed that “you get what you pay for”.

Even though I don’t sell websites any more, my days fiddling with Joomla Templates into the wee hours were very necessary part of my growth as a business owner.

What I learned:

  1. Leave it to the pro’s.
  2. Leave it to the pro’s.
  3. Leave it to the pro’s.

May see redundant, but it took me nearly THREE YEARS before I truly learned that lesson.  I can do a lot of things.  Build Joomla & WordPress websites, write newsletters, create logos, establish brands, promote events, blah, blah, blah.

But of those tasks, there are only a few that I can claim any *real* level of expertise.

That receipt stands as evidence of my first step toward finding that core skill, and learning to delegate the rest.
